Max is an American singer, dancer, actor and entertainer. Max, and his band, The Max Pack, perform jazz, classics from the Great American Songbook, as well as original songs and covers of some of his favorite artists (Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé, Tony Bennett, Mark Anthony, Harry Connick Jr., Billy Joel, Luis Miguel, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Frankie Valli). Max is billed as an entertainer with an "old soul, young heart!" Max collaborates with jazz pianist, Bert Dalton, who is also his Musical Director. Max is joined on-stage with a powerhouse group of nationally recognized musicians including, drummers Mark Clark and Davo Bryant, bassists Jon Gagin, Colin Dueble and Milo Jaramillo, saxophonist Kanoa Kaluhiwa, Chief Sanchez on trumpet, congero Kevin Miller and pianist Kirk Kadish.
The Max Pack gives this multi-faceted artist an opportunity to combine his talents into one super stellar performance! Max and The Max Pack have performed for the past few years all over Santa Fe including community events such as The Burning of Zozobra, Zozofest, Santa Fe Bandstand, Community Days, Pancakes on the Plaza, the Santa Fe Plaza Holiday Lighting, Santa Fe Wine & Chile, as well as many private events and club shows.
Max will be starting his sophomore year at Stanford University in California in the fall, where he is studying Psychology, Theater & Performance Studies, Math and Jazz.. Max was a member of the Stanford University a capella group, Talisman. The group performed with musical legends, Joan Baez and Bobby McFerrin. Talisman performs all over Stanford and spent 10 days in India.
At an early age, Max joined his father, musician David Manzanares, on stage, with the Latin band, Manzanares. Max wrote and performed songs for children with his early band, Max & the Latin Daddys. Max also immersed in the traditional cultural New Mexican music sang at every family gathering. But ultimately, he was always drawn to jazz. At a young age, it was a trip to Las Vegas to see Michael Bublé at the MGM Grand that proved very inspiring for Max and he then created his own band, The Max Pack.
Max was awarded the Santa Fe Mayor's Arts Award (Melissa Engestrom Youth Artist) in 2017 along with fellow recipients George R. R. Martin, N. Scott Momaday and the Georgia O’Keefe Museum. He also studied at the Boston Conservatory where he further honed his singing, acting and dancing skills under the direction of Broadway's Michelle Chassé, Kyle Brown, Nick Adams, Noah Racy, Larry Sousa, Candice Brown, Elena Guitierrez, Julie Pappas-Smith, Kevin Wilson and Tatiana Obeso. Max also studied at the Broadway Dance Center in New York City under choreographer, Richard Hinds, associate director for Newsies-The Musical, as well as Broadway choreographer, Sheila Barker.
NDI-NM (National Dance Institute New Mexico) also played a major role in Max's career. Max has performed at the Boston Conservatory, Broadway Dance Center, National Dance Institute, the Lensic Theatre, the Hiland Theatre and Santa Fe Performing Arts for the past decade doing what he loves the most - singing, dancing and acting!
Max also works in television and film. Max, his dad, actor David Manzanares, and his grandfather, Herman Manzanares, were featured on CNN's Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown/New Mexico in 2013 showcasing their multi-generational history. He has appeared in the feature films Bless Me Ultima; Sweet Vengeance with Ed Harris and Jason Isaacs; and The Ridiculous Six with Adam Sandler. He appeared in commercials for Buffalo Ranch with actor Josh Henderson (of Dallas) as well as locally for 5 Star Burger, Bishop's Lodge and Christus St. Vincent.
When not performing, which is rare, Max spends most of his times these days immersed in his education. He also loves to spend time with family and friends in Santa Fe; at the family ranch in Abiquiu, NM; on the West Coast in Palm Springs and Newport Beach and his new home away from home, Stanford University. He loves to travel and meet new people! Max continues his artistic journey and looks forward to an exciting future sharing his talent with the world... stay tuned!
